Dreams do come TRUE!!!! Ever since I became ahairstylists/makeup artist it was my dream to work atMercedes-Benz Fashion Weekin New York City. That all became a reality this fall 2013. I had the pleasure of working under the direction of thetalented Janell Geason, Aveda’sGlobal Artistic Director for makeup andsome of the most talented makeup artists in the industry.
What a whirlwind it was. Some days you would have one show andothers you would have 3 shows. It truly gives the meaning the “calm before the storm”. Everything would start outcalm and by the end of the getting ready for the show you were probley working on one model with 10 other artists to make sure sthe model was runway ready. I don’t think there is anything that can prepare you for theorganized chaos. Yes, I did say organized chaos because Janell and her team runit like awell oil machine.
Isometimes would readhorror stories about how the designers and models act. I won’t lie I was a little scared at first lol. Nothing could have been farther from the truth , at least withthe designers Aveda worked with. They were all so gracious to have us there working and getting the modelsready to show off their beautiful designs. The models were also beautiful and gracious. I didn’t see any of them fighting over food or pulling each others hairlol. They actually were hugging, kissing and giving someawesome adviceto some of the newbies.
By the endof the day I was in awe of it all and craving to go back the next day. I will keeppracticing my skills and love for makeup to hopefully get the honor to do it all over again. I hope you enjoy some of my pics of the journey. I also want to give ahuge shout out to thedesigners I had the pleasure to do makeup for:
