hursday February 7th, 2019 was a big night for Trixies Salon and myself. We were honored with runner up for Business of the Year and I was awarded Citizen of the Year byFuseDSM.I am beyond grateful, honored, and humbled to have received these awards. Honestly, that night I was overcome with so many emotions. I just kept thinking of how proud I am of the “village” that helps me on a daily basis to be able to accomplish my dreams.
I also looked over at Colton, our 26 year old son, and I was instantly taken back to this 16 year old girl sitting in a hospital bed, holding her baby, and not even having a clue on what my life was going to look like. All I knew was that I looked down at him and made a promise that I would give us the best life possible. I wasn’t going to let society give me a label of “teenage mom.” I would finish high school, I would go to college, I wouldn’t live off of public assistance my whole life. I was going to make something of myself for my son. God had a purpose for me and I owed it to myself to go after my dreams.
I’ve always wanted to be a hairstylist. Truvy (Dolly Parton) from Steel Magnolias was, and still is, my idol. There is always something about her and that movie that makes my heart/soul happy. I still cry every time I watch it. Lol
As hairstylists we have such a gift. I truly believe that we can and are changing the world. We’re bringing communities together and supporting one another through giving back to those in need. I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life and I thank those that believe in me day in and day out.ï¸
