Ahh... STRESS!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by stress...

Stress affects us ALL. Whether it’s good or bad, stress is the driving force. Every season brings on new stressors: family events, sports, holidays, you name it, stress is involved some way.

Personally, my husband and I just bought a house and moved in Labor Day weekend (YAY adulting), and let me tell you (if you don’t already know), it was the most stressful experience of my life. Everything from the application to house tours to bidding on houses to actually getting the house and going through inspections and closing. As much of a happy event as it was, it was still pretty stressful. Every step of the way brought on a new set of fears and worries.

But not all stress is bad (surprising, right?). Stress can help us and motivate us, but like most things in life, too much stress can cause a lot of damage to your body. Excessive feelings of stress will cause your body to go into a “Fight or Flight” reaction. This causes hormones to be released known mainly as Cortisol and Adrenaline. These hormones cause your heart rate to go up, your body goes into shock, and thinking becomes unclear. (Not good if you plan on living a good, long life)

I could go on and on and on about stress. I mean, it is such an interesting phenomenon that everyone feels, but the most important thing to remember is that you’re not alone and there are ways to help cope and soothe your stress. Some ways include: taking a hot bath, reading, having a glass of wine (or if you’re like me, Diet Coke), yelling at your spouse for something completely mundane that really had no bearing on you at all (OK so maybe that’s not really a good way to cope, but we all do it).
