add The Cheese Shop of Des Moines to the list of Trixies favorite things! it is located on 42nd St. amongst the Shops at Roosevelt and it is amazing. we stopped in for a bit last week after the grand opening of Forte and instantly fell in love. the shop is cozy and rustic and the guys working were very welcoming and helpful. they helped us pick out a cheese plate and we also snacked on blue cheese stuffed olives and bread (which they bring in from La Mie Bakery next door); top that off with an amazing glass of wine (or beer if you’re hannah) and it was heaven. The Cheese Shop is by no means a restaurant, they have a couple high-top tables and a cheese bar if you want to stick around, but more a shop you can take home some fabulous items from for date night or a cocktail party!
here is what a writer for the register wrote (as they can say it much better than i…), “The Cheese Shop … Who/what: Husband-and- wife team C.J. and Kari Bienert opened the venue in early November. They sell more than 100 artisan and farmhouse cheeses from both the New World and Old, along with cured meats and other painstakingly-purveyed foods, from high-end crackers and fig jam to sea-salt caramels. What’s to drink? The beverage selection here is equally well-sourced, with a lovely selection of lesser-known producers, grapes, and regions (including Pineau de Charentes, a Cognac-splashed aperitif from France as well as a pinot blanc from Alsace). Diners who order wines by the bottle do so at retail (rather than restaurant) prices. Beer lovers will love geeking out here, too; choices range from a great selection of hard ciders to sips many of us have never heard of (triple-fermented oak-aged red ale, anyone?).”
All in all, The Cheese Shop of Des Moines is a great addition to the area and offers a fun little experience! #fave xo.
